Catalyst carrier also called support is one of the components of supported catalysts and the framework of the active components of catalysts that can support decomposition of active components and can also increase the strength of catalysts. Usually, carriers themselves do not have the catalytic activity. 

Most carriers are products used in the catalyst industry. Commonly used carriers include alumina carrier, silica gel carrier, activated carbon carrier, some natural products such as pumice, diatomaceous earth, etc. The name of active components, i.e., the name of carriers is usually used to indicate the composition of supported catalysts, such as alumina catalyst for hydrogenation, the oxidant diatomite catalyst for oxidization, etc. 

There are many kinds of catalyst carriers, including metal oxide carrier, molecular sieve carrier and other carriers. When selecting a carrier, the efficiency, catalytic activity as well as the support fastness, the service life and the price of catalyst should be taken into overall consideration.
